Chapter 25. Backup and Recovery
In this chapter, we discuss some of the concepts and issues relating to backup and recovery of RAC databases. We will concentrate on Recovery Manager (RMAN), the standard backup and recovery package supplied with the database software. Even if you currently use third-party backup solutions for your single-instance database, we recommend that you seriously consider using the capabilities of RMAN in a RAC environment. RMAN is tightly integrated with the database and therefore generally provides the most efficient, supported, and widely available solution for backup and recovery. In addition, RMAN is RAC-aware and its price is already included as part of your Oracle license.
