It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Using Other App Environments
Throughout this book, we have explored the various ways an app for SharePoint can leverage the resources of the SharePoint farm. The components that make up our apps have been hosted locally or in remote web sites outside of SharePoint to enable us to use server-side ASP.NET logic.
