The Microsoft Sync Framework provides a comprehensive synchronization platform that enables offline and collaborative services for applications, stores, and devices without agreeing on the type of the data to be synchronized, the data store or transfer protocols, or even the network topology. What makes this possible is the common metadata model. The Sync Framework allows developers to create custom providers for their synchronization needs with complete freedom (except that the custom providers have to store the sync metadata using a common metadata model).
