The Internet can be seen as a huge collection of information and services, but it has evolved in such a magnificent way that now it is virtually impossible to conceive of our lives without it. And present-day requirements for sophisticated applications mean developers need to find the right tools to deliver those applications.
Microsoft understood this need and, despite entering the Internet arena a bit late, did a wonderful job of creating the .NET Framework—a platform that is not only robust enough for the most demanding applications but also is secure, easy to adopt, and highly extensible.
