7. Midi Tracks

In this chapter we’re going to take our first steps toward learning and using MIDI. For some reason, MIDI intimidates a lot of people. If it intimidates you, forget everything you’ve learned or heard about MIDI up until now. Let’s wipe the slate clean.

What is MIDI? It’s an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, but don’t let that scare you. If you think of MIDI as a translator, it will make more sense. Imagine that your computer speaks Spanish and your MIDI keyboard speaks German. MIDI is the guy between them, translating back and forth so they understand each other. MIDI simply allows your keyboard or any other MIDI device to talk to your computer, that’s all.
