4.1 Types of plug-ins
Plug-ins come in several types. RTAS (Real Time AudioSuite) plug-ins will work in any Pro Tools system, HD M-Powered, or LE. They use the computer’s processor and memory, requiring no special hardware. There are also TDM plug-ins. These will only work on HD systems as they use the DSP chips in the HD boards to process audio. Both types function as inserts that are inserted into an audio path and process audio in real time as the audio moves through the plug-in.
There are also AudioSuite plug-ins for processing audio to new media files. These are used from the AudioSuite menu in Pro Tools.
