5.1 Splitting off tracks and dialogue editing by character

The dialogue edit will go much more smoothly if you start with well-organized tracks. The number of production tracks needed depends on the complexity of the project. Some rules to keep in mind: don’t cut any sound clips up to each other unless they are derived from the same take. Although you can set a different level for each clip, in the final mix you want total control of the level of the individual clips, and this will be tricky if they are butted up together in the same track.
