Think Tanks and Problem-Solving

This chapter explores a few selected labs, think tanks and federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) whose main job is to think about ways of solving problems on behalf of their customers. By and large, they do an exceedingly good job and they are at the leading edge of research and development for the country. We have much to learn from them, if we are able to observe and understand what they are up to. There are restrictions, however, as to what they are able to tell us. Such is life in the fast lane.
