Layout Within Buildings

Abstract

The design of plant within buildings mainly differs from that of open-air plant in that space is more restricted in an indoor than in an open-air plant, because buildings add to costs, and therefore need to be as small as practicably possible. Ideally, therefore, the plant should be laid out first and then the building added around it. This can start with an estimation of building footprint, based on optimal economic and efficient plant layout, with a factor for circulation and maintenance space and room for expansion.
