On Set

They told me, “Don’t worry. Everything’s fine. He’s all set; he knows what he’s doing.” So the actors took their places, and we started, rolled sound, rolled camera. I called action, did the shot, called cut. It was great. Then, I suddenly notice there’s a commotion going on next to me. I look over, and there are yards of magnetic tape spewing out of the Nagra, and the homeless guy, who was trying to help us record sound, now has his hands over his face. We quickly went back to the original way of the soundman operating the recorder by himself.
