The three big console makers in the video game industry are Microsoft (Xbox 360), Sony (PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable), and Nintendo (Wii and DSi). Each of these major players hold one of the biggest stakes in the industry. While some games are exclusive to one specific platform, most publishers try to release multiplatform games where the same or similar version of the same title is released on all three major consoles.
This isn’t an easy process; not only do each of these systems use unique technology, making it difficult to port a game code directly from one to another, but they each have a stringent and unique approval process that all games must go through to release on one of the respective platforms. ...
