• Getting clean audio into your NLE can be as easy as plugging in a drive. But things can go wrong: be ready to check and fix damage before you edit.
• SMPTE timecode might not be necessary—generations of great Hollywood films were made without it. But it’s handy for keeping track of elements … and if you’re producing for broadcast, timecode is important.
• Optical film and digital video run at different frame rates … but even after you’ve made the obvious adjustment, a few extra steps might be needed for long-term sync.
