Producing product ideas is the first step in the conceive phase of the product life cycle (see Chapter 3). Unfortunately, no app lets you easily select a perfect product idea that precisely fits your requirements. So where do these ideas come from, and how can you come up with a compelling list that you can later prioritize to determine which to pursue? This chapter gives you some useful tips and techniques for doing just that.

Entire books have been written on how to generate ideas. To help narrow the creative process, in this section we present some of the most common methods and places to find ideas. These techniques are by no means exhaustive, but they should be more than enough to help you develop a healthy list of ideas to choose from.
