Most businesses have an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) or an MRP (Manufacturing Requirements Planning) system. In this chapter, we’ll use them interchangeably. If used properly, the ERP system can set the stage for successful scheduling. It can be the system of record for master data and transaction data and perform the tasks that a scheduling system is not equipped to do, things like quality management, lot tracking and tracing, finance, regulatory compliance, and purchasing.
