In Chapter 1, we introduced the basics of Professional Coaching and suggested getting a sense of its full depth by familiarizing yourself with the ICF’s assessment markers or the IAC’s Coaching Masteries, or both. Additionally, we pointed you to Appendix B, which contains lists of behaviors to do and avoid, as a companion to the skills and techniques we cover in the book.

Although these lists are useful and necessary to work toward higher levels of coaching proficiency, consider them starting points for understanding how to be a great coach and not the end goal. Think of the markers as a set of dance steps set ...
