Chapter 18. Introduction to Database Development
A large percentage of non-trivial Excel applications require some sort of external data store, usually in the form of a database. In this chapter we cover the basics of database design, SQL syntax, and the ADO object model. We do not go into great detail on any of these topics, as all of them are book-length subjects in their own right. By the end of this chapter, however, you will have all the fundamental tools required to begin incorporating a database into your application. In the next chapter we demonstrate how to apply these tools to Microsoft Access and SQL Server development.
