So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 26. Developing Excel Solutions with Visual Studio Tools for Office System (VSTO)
Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) had a bad start with version 1.0. It was difficult to use, lacked significant capabilities, and suffered from major bugs. To make things worse, very few developers even understood what VSTO was really designed for. The next version, VSTO 2005, addressed many of the problems with version 1.0 and added more features to the toolset. A major update, called VS2005 Second Edition (SE), was later released. This update enabled developers to target Office 2007 and create application-level solutions.
As of this writing, the latest version—VSTO 2008 (also known as version 3.0)—is included in Visual Studio 2008 Professional and above. ...
