There are many management and programmatic configuration options in IIS 8.0. The latest release of IIS maintains the large steps taken in the area of management and upholds the foundation for extensive customization.

The configuration has been optimized in IIS 8.0; nonetheless, the schema continues to be fully extendable. This schema expansion allows all the programming methods to use the custom extensions immediately. The schema is not hard-coded into IIS and can therefore be significantly expanded.

Moreover, mimicking the ASP.NET structure by use of the XML Configuration construct, IIS 8.0 fully supports many of the configuration methods familiar to .NET developers.

If you have invested in custom programs in previous versions of IIS, you will be happy to know that the IIS development team has taken great care to ensure that IIS 8.0 is backward compatible with existing scripts, allowing you to continue to use your existing code.
