This chapter defines social search, and explains how it can be applied within the business context and how it can improve relevancy and add value to the user search experience. After reading this chapter, you will be able to take the customization knowledge gained in the previous chapters and apply it to implementing a customized social search solution as well as recognize the potential for a search solution leveraging social features of the platform. Specific solutions will be demonstrated for tagging search results by users and finding subject matter experts. You will witness the dynamic effects of user tagging on search results and understand more about collaborative searching. At the end of this chapter, you will know how social search features in SharePoint 2010 work and be able to configure and manage people and expertise search.
