6.3. Working with Style in SharePoint Designer

SharePoint Designer is the customization editor for SharePoint. It provides powerful tools for discovering, configuring, and creating new styles. It's an awesome way to navigate around the seemingly complex web of SharePoint's style sheets. This section shows which tools SharePoint Designer provides and how these tools are used to work effectively with styles in SharePoint.

NOTE

While SharePoint styles are used for the examples in this chapter, the tools and c-oncepts in this chapter apply fully to any web site.

6.3.1. Page-Editing Options

Before starting to use the CSS tools in SharePoint Designer, it is beneficial to browse through the page-editing options in the Page Editor Options dialog box. Open the dialog by selecting Tools Page Editor Options. There is much that can be configured in this dialog box. However, the only options of interest at this time are the ones that deal with styles, so it's the Authoring, IntelliSense, and CSS tabs that you should look through.

On the Authoring tab (see Figure 6-2), you should see the default version, CSS 2.1, selected in the CSS Schema section. If you do, good! Keep it that way. If not, change it to that setting.
