8.2. Deploying Reports with Business Intelligence Design Studio (BIDS)

After you have prepared your SharePoint environment, you are ready to deploy reports to SharePoint 2007. In Business Intelligence Design Studio (BIDS), publishing reports from BIDS to a SharePoint site is known as deploying reports to SharePoint. The most common way to deploy a report to SharePoint is to use BIDS. In this section, you will walk through the steps involved in deploying a report to SharePoint 2007.

8.2.1. Setting up the Deployment Properties

To deploy a report using BIDS, you must specify the URL of the report server, the location where you wish to deploy reports, the location of the data source folder and whether you will allow the data source to be overwritten. These are the deployment properties of a report project or solution. Setting up these deployment properties is the first step when deploying reports to SharePoint 2007 using BIDS.

The deployment properties of all reports are controlled by the solution's configuration settings. The configuration settings define the properties of the solution, such as the build and deployment properties. One thing to know about the configuration settings in BIDS is that you can only apply one configuration setting at a time to your solution, which means you cannot have different deployment properties for each individual report.
