The Pre-game
In the game of rugby, or any professional sport for that matter, many activities must be performed prior to kickoff: prior games are analyzed, sponsors are secured, stakeholder input is provided, rules get clarified, playing fields get selected, calendar dates get negotiated, teams get selected, and player positions get designated. Scrum development efforts also have a pre-game, where many of these same types of activities are performed. The Scrum pre-game is the time period when the vision is established all the way up to the start of the first Sprint. The pre-game is not timeboxed, and not all development efforts make it out of the pre-game.
