USING DISKPREP POWER TOY
The DiskPrep utility can be used to configure different types of storage, for x86 based devices, with BIOSLoader to launch a Windows Embedded Compact OS run-time image or an Ethernet bootloader. In addition, this utility can also be used to configure a virtual hard disk (VHD) for the Virtual PC to launch Windows Embedded Compact OS run-time.
The exercises in this section show the steps to accomplish the following:
- Configure the Compact Flash (CF) storage for an eBox-3310A to boot to a Compact 7 OS run-time image
- Configure the VHD for a Virtual PC to boot to a Compact 7 OS run-time image
Configuring Compact Flash with BIOSLoader for eBox-3310A
To use the DiskPrep utility to configure the flash storage device to become bootable, with BIOSLoader, to launch a Windows Embedded Compact OS run-time image or Ethernet bootloader, you need to have a mechanism to attach the flash storage device to the development station, as removable storage. The DiskPrep utility cannot configure fixed storage.
You can use one of the following methods to attach a flash storage device to the development station:
- Use an USB to IDE adapter for IDE flash storage
- Use an USB to Compact Flash adapter for Compact Flash storage
- Use an USB to SD adapter for SD flash storage
- USB flash storage can be attached directly to the development station’s USB host interface
