Abstract:
Umbilical cord blood (UCB) collected from the umbilical cord of a healthy newborn is well known as a rich source of both stem and progenitor cells. In recent years a greater interest has grown rapidly in use of UCB as an alternate source of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSCs) for transplantation. With recent advances in biology and the development of new practices and procedures it is now possible to manipulate and modulate UCB stem-progenitor proliferation, self-renewal and differentiation. UCB stem/progenitor cell biology could lead to many exciting cellular therapies for diseases ...
