16. Revising the Schedule

This chapter provides some insight into options that project managers should consider when there are signs of trouble. Depending on how the project plan and schedule were put together, you can consider alternatives to help get things back on track.

When Things Don’t Go According to Plan

A project schedule provides a roadmap, but it is not infallible; it is based on accumulated knowledge and best guesses, and it makes a set of assumptions that do not always work out. For example, if the schedule was put together without any weighted estimates for effort or budget, the chance for meeting the exact date and budget is approximately 50%.
