It’s one thing getting a project up and running, but it’s another keeping it in control so that you can move smoothly through to delivery. You’ll have to think through and plan the controls before you get caught up in the busyness of the project, and that’s why this chapter comes in the Planning section of the book.
A key message for any project is get it in control – keep it in control. It would be nice if this chapter could just give you a ‘how to’ checklist to achieve that control but, of course, it isn’t quite as easy as that. The nature and degree of control you’ll need depends on the project, any standards in your organisation and, perhaps surprisingly, you; there’s room here for your own preferred way of running projects.
