Chapter 4

Project Scope Management

Scope management consists of the processes required to ensure that a project includes all the work required, and only the work required, to complete the project successfully.

In an Adaptive/Agile Environment, the scope is often not fully developed at the beginning of the project and evolves during the project. This approach requires ongoing review and refinement of scope instead of trying to define and agree on scope early in the initiative. To ensure evolving requirements are captured and potential gaps are identified and managed; requirements are captured and refined in both the product backlog and iteration/sprint planning, prototypes are built and reviewed and releases are versioned.
