7.0 INTRODUCTION

In recent years, there has been a rapid growth in the number of companies developing expertise in dashboard design techniques and graphical displays of business intelligence. These companies often have the knowledge and capability to construct effective dashboards for clients through a much less costly approach than if the company had to do it by itself and develop its own expertise. While these companies understand the necessity to custom-design the dashboards to fit the needs of the client, they also try to prevent a “reinvention of the wheel” by first looking at what dashboards worked well for other clients and seeing if any or all of the information in or design of the dashboard can be applied to new clients. The same holds true for the metrics used in the dashboards.
