Learning Content Management Systems

The core of a successful e-learning initiative is its learning content management system (LCMS), a centralized repository for your e-learning content and the means to organize, update, and distribute e-learning to your e-learning audience. Your decision to build or buy an LCMS depends on just how much e-learning content you plan to develop, how many authors and developers will be involved, how widely distributed your team members are, how much money you have to spend initially, and other factors unique to your organization. Whatever you decide, make sure you have the functions listed in table 8-1 covered within your organization—with or without the help of a dedicated tool.
