Expert Directories: Connecting People to People

So far we have described how to search portals for information contained in unstructured texts and for services available through applications. As for tacit knowledge, that hard-to-define but essential intellectual asset that roams the halls and offices of organizations inside the heads of knowledge workers, we need to turn to expert directories.

Expert directories are semistructured databases of information about knowledge workers' experience, projects, training, and formal education. Resumes provide a starting point for expert directories, but more detailed, concrete information is needed than is generally available in these documents.
