New applications require conveying huge bitrate from a source node to one or multiple destinations, and, as a result, multicast and anycast connections need to be established on the optical layer. In this chapter, the point‐to‐multipoint (P2MP) routing and spectrum allocation (RSA) problem is proposed to find feasible light‐trees to serve multicast demands. Given that creating transparent light‐trees noticeably improves the performance obtained by serving the demand using a set of lightpaths, that approach is experimentally validated. Finally, the anycast RSA problem is studied and experimentally assessed.
