Language and Communication

INTRODUCTION

Language and communication is a topic that is central to human cognition. It could be argued that the study of language and communication is perhaps the best means of studying the human mind. The study of language acquisition in children, for instance, has provided a major impetus for the advancement of cognitive as well as linguistic sciences. The concept of linguistic relativity laces together language, thought, and culture. The studies on the evolution of language and language behaviour in a variety of sociocultural settings have brought biologists, psychologists, anthropologists, sociologists, and linguists under one umbrella.
