Political Economy of Public Policy
The goal of this chapter is to provide an interesting overview of the political economy of public policy. As we proceed in this chapter, we will first discuss what is political economy. Thereafter, we will study the role of the state in public policy and particularly focus on the political and economic systems, the instruments of the state, and the changing role of the state. Understanding the different forms of government helps in appreciating their role in public policy. Accordingly, we discuss the presidential, parliamentary, unitary, federal, and confederation forms of government. It is interesting to know the nexus between the state and the markets.
