Public Policy Making: The Role of Bureaucracy

This chapter intends to present an understanding of the role of bureaucracy in public policymaking. In this chapter, we will first discuss bureaucracy in detail and know what bureaucracy is, bureaucrat, bureaucratic elitism, and the major characteristics of bureaucracy. To provide a theoretical perspective on bureaucracy, we will then discuss Max Weber’s Bureaucratic Form and the six major principles: authority hierarchy, formalized rules, specialization, impersonality, formal selection, and career orientation.
