I would not have been able to write this book if I had not been born and raised in South Africa. Due to a unique set of circumstances my consciousness took shape at the intersection of race, class, gender, ethnicity, and culture.

As an Afrikaner woman I had a unique vantage point to see and experience discrimination, both as perpetrator and recipient. I believe my and my parents’ generations of Afrikaners have a collective responsibility for the years of discrimination of Blacks in that country.
