7.1 Emerging Technologies with Life‐Saving Potential
In the present day, life‐saving technology has steadily gained momentum worldwide and remains revolutionary due to the fact that it empowers even a layman to become easily knowledgeable and a hero in one way or another. Nevertheless, a number of new life‐saving technologies are still undergoing development that have the capacity to provide immense promise for first incident responders and bystanders (Zarrilli 2016). Emerging technologies have become part of life, simply because some people may interpret these technologies as emerging, and yet others may see them in different ways (Conway 2013). BusinessDictionary.com defines emerging technology as a new technology that is still under development or being developed to be implemented at a future time, in about five to ten years (BusinessDictionary 2018). This new technology will considerably transform or change the social and business environment, including communication capabilities, and will alter the traditional way of conveying information. The technology will entail wireless data communications, information technology, biotechnology, on‐demand printing, advanced robotics, and man–machine communications (Conway 2013).
