When you’re giving a speech or presentation, you’re the boss, regardless of what position you hold in your organization. And when you’re the boss, you should act and feel like one. We’ve all seen the presenter who comes onstage or into the boardroom looking sheepish. Her body is closed in, and she doesn’t exude the confidence we expect from a speaker. Her movement is confusing, and we start to focus on that rather than on her message. What is her message anyway? We feel alienated because she’s not looking at us and not connecting.
