AWS network overview

When we discuss AWS services, we need to start at the top with regions and availability zones. They have big implications for all of our services. At the time of writing this book, AWS listed 18 Regions, 55 Availability Zones (AZ), and one local region around the world. In the words of AWS Global Infrastructure, ( 

"The AWS Cloud infrastructure is built around Regions and Availability Zones (AZs). AWS Regions provide multiple, physically separated and isolated Availability Zones which are connected with low latency, high throughput, and highly redundant networking."
