Abstract

The optics of rotationally symmetric (round) electrostatic and magnetic lenses, electrostatic and magnetic quadrupoles and octopoles is recapitulated at length. Formulae for cardinal elements and aberration coefficients are then given for various model potentials. Fifth-order aberrations are mentioned briefly.
