Understanding the QFD matrices is not the same as doing QFD. Most people, as they participate in their first QFD activity, get confused. They usually don’t know how long the process should take, or what to do next. The process is complex enough so that people get lost among the trees and have difficulty finding their way out of the forest.
Other parts of this book have described what QFD is, and how it fits in with product development and Lean Six Sigma initiatives. The QFD Handbook focuses on how to implement QFD, with special emphasis on the House of Quality. If a development team can gain a level of confidence with the HOQ, the various possible follow-on matrices will be relatively simple to develop.
