Abstract:

This chapter introduces solid-state single-photon sources based on single colour centres in diamond. Following an introduction to the applications of single-photon sources, we discuss the basic principles of their operation. We summarize the key parameters for characterizing a single-photon source and comment on diamond as a host material for single emitters.
