WHEN QUARKXPRESS 1 WAS RELEASED IN 1987, print publishing was the only kind of publishing. This would change during the 1990s with the growth of the Internet and the advent of Web publishing. One result of these developments was that many print publishing companies suddenly needed software tools that allowed them to repurpose their print content on the Web and build Web pages. Quark’s answer was to add Web publishing features to QuarkXPress 5. This gave existing users a familiar environment for building Web pages and enabled all users—new and old—to publish for both print and the Web.
