Over the years, I’ve observed that some folks like to use their mouse to carry out most, or all, commands on the computer. There’s nothing wrong with this approach, but it can take more time to carry tasks out, because the mouse cursor must always be moved from one part of the screen to another. I’ve also seen people that pretty much act as if they don’t know what a mouse is and carry out every command with their keyboard. Accordingly, sometimes one must use several keystrokes in conjunction to carry out a task. I’m a bit of a purist. To me, if it involves pressing more than three keys at once, such as Ctrl-Alt-Delete to display the Task Manager in Windows, then it’s not truly a shortcut. Therefore, I tend to use my mouse a fair amount, but I also use keyboard shortcuts as well. Given the repetitive and transactional nature of accounting work, having at least a handful of keyboard shortcuts at your fingertips can definitely help you streamline certain tasks.
