Chapter 1. What happened?

Recessions happen; they're part of the regular cycle. Nothing lasts forever—good or bad. Take solace in the fact that while the bad times feel terrible, recessions are where we make economies stronger coming out of the cycle.

The last cycle (the dot.com bust) saw record employment in America by January 2008. The world had made progress in reducing poverty, improving education, and creating a better place to live, work, and raise families. Sure, we have lost some of that, and some would say we should have achieved more in the first place. But we'll get back, get stronger, and break more records. It may take another four to six years, but it will happen.
