Chapter 12Performance Evaluation of the Hammerstein-Type DFE

In the last chapter we saw how an effective equalization scheme can be developed for the combined Fi-Wi uplink, separating the time-varying wireless channel compensation from the static nonlinearity compensation. In this chapter, the performance of the proposed Hammerstein-type DFE is investigated. The MSE of the polynomial filter (PLF) and DFE portions is evaluated separately to get an individual understanding of how each portion performs. The error at the PLF is a function of signal power, noise power (hence SNR), orders of the channel, and compensating polynomials as well as the dynamic range. The magnitude of error in the DFE portion is a function of SNR and the length of the feedforward and feedback filters.

12.1 Evaluation of the Polynomial Filter

The polynomial filter estimation error c12-math-0001 is evaluated in this section.

From expression (10.12), each separable Volterra kernel c12-math-0002 is a function of the channel memory c12-math-0003 and the order of the compensating polynomial c12-math-0004. From equation (10.5), the received signal is a summation of ...
