This attribute, in effect, is the NAS gear’s Caller ID function. The value in this attribute carries the number of the calling party inside an Access-Request packet. This can be used both for convenience and security purposes. For instance, different access-control lists can be created, only allowing callers from certain places to be authenticated. As well, a regional POP could be managed and limited by only allowing callers from certain area codes and exchanges. This attribute could also be used in conjunction with a callback service. Much of the configuration of what the NAS gear does with the Calling-Station-ID attribute is environment specific; there is no standard manner to handle the attribute.
