The chapter discusses the role of rare earth species on the improved performance of anodized aluminium alloys. Initially, the roles of selected rare earth elements as alloying additions to aluminium on the anodizing response and associated ionic transport under the high electric field are considered. The use of rare earth species in the treatment of aluminium prior to and after anodizing, in order to incorporate the rare earth species into oxides or hydroxides produced on the metal surface or introduced into the porous morphology of the anodized aluminium, is also discussed. ...
