The Nature of Grammar and Dictionaries
Before getting to the actual rules and suggestions, let us pause a moment to say something about the nature of “correctness” in language. Practically nobody today (other than linguistics experts) seems to understand anything about grammar—what it is, where it came from, what it’s for, and so on. So this section will begin by clarifying a few points.
