After an international career in business followed by time in the German public sector, Aria had joined a Geneva-based nongovernmental organization (NGO) devoted to mitigating climate change. Despite Geneva’s conservative nature, the institution made a big bet on Aria, the first nonbinary executive at the organization, based on their amazing track record. (Aria’s pronouns are they/them.) The board brought them in as executive director (ED) following the previous ED’s retirement. Board members loved Aria’s charisma and vision to expand and diversify the organization’s mission.
