Chapter Four. Building a Layout
I find the design process really fascinating. The designer must meld rigid, mathematical specifications with flowing, flexible sensibilities. XPress works best when you use this mix. First, build the foundation of your document with precision. Second, place items on the page with creativity.
This chapter is about starting that process: building an infrastructure for your document. I call this “document construction.” It’s just like the construction of a building. First you decide on the building’s specifications—how tall and wide you want it to be, and so on. Next you lay a foundation and build structural supports.
